Adaptive PE
Physical education can be defined as the systematic instruction of sports, exercise, and hygiene given as part of a school program. There are three learning domains that the discipline of physical education teaches through; the cognitive, the affective, and the psychomotor. I strive to keep my activities for each unit student centered and developmentally appropriate for each participant. I feel that all physical education programs should integrate with the core subjects, include all students, and enjoyable for all, and provide the students the opportunity to develop their social skills further.
Through my journey in the University of New Haven’s Instructional Technology and Digital Media Literacy program I have learned and established a strong skill set in advanced technologies that will help integrate technology into any classroom and create more student engagement. Physical education should be available and appropriate for students of all ages, sizes and mental capacities as well as technology. I’m a strong supporter of inclusive classes when the units are safe for all participants, each lesson should be adapted when necessary to meet the needs of everyone and with the use of assistive technology our school systems could provide a more equal and appropriate setting for all students in any type of classroom setting.
My dream is to have an entire curriculum in Wallingford designed for all school aged students with appropriate equipment designed for all types of needs. I hope to train new teachers on how to use the equipment and modify lessons for each student. I plan on having numerous student teachers learn a skill set that isn't as common in the student teaching field and inspire younger teachers to open their eyes to new opportunities.
